Writer/director Tze Chun’s Cold Comes the Night has recently been acquired by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquistions (SPWA). The company, which has provided distribution for films such as Looper, Zero Dark Thirty, and The Call, will have domestic and international media rights to the film.
Bryan Cranston (Argo, TV’s Breaking Bad) plays a career criminal who is nearly blind who takes a motel owner (Alice Eve, Star Trek Into Darkness, X-Men: First Class) and her daughter (Ursula Parker, The Son of No One, We Need to Talk About Kevin) hostage to be his eyes while he picks up a cash package from a dirty cop (Logan Marshall-Green, Prometheus, Across the Universe).
While Eve is coming off her role in Star Trek Into Darkness, Cranston’s hit TV series Breaking Bad (in which he also plays a criminal – making up for all those fatherly years on Malcom in the Middle?) will air the final eight episodes starting Sunday August 11th.
Cold Comes the Night will be Chun’s first film since his 2009 indie flick Children of Invention, which tells the story of two young immigrant children and their struggling mother. The children invent things for fun, but after their mother is arrested they must look out for themselves.
Cold Comes the Night is currently in post-production and has a release date of September 20, 2013.
