Oscar-winning filmmaker Sofia Coppola returns to the screen this summer with The Beguiled, a remake of Don Siegel’s 1971 thriller which starred Clint Eastwood and Geraldine Page. Coppola has assembled a top-notch ensemble cast for her latest headed by Oscar winner Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell. The Beguiled, which takes place during the Civil War, centers on an injuring Union soldier (Farrell) who is cared for at a girls boarding school in the South. Frequent Coppola collaborators Kirsten Dunst (who headed the director’s debut The Virgin Suicides as well as her Marie Antoinette) and Elle Fanning (who starred in Somewhere) co-star, as do rising young actors Oona Laurence, Angourie Rice, Emma Howard and Addison Riecke.
The film was recently named to make it world premiere at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, where The Beguiled will compete in the main competition line-up. The film opens on June 23rd. Check out the chilling new trailer below:
