‘Snow White’ Plumets And Bombs In Second Week Loses To ‘A Working Man’

In a extremely surprising upset Disney’s Snow White was hurled off the number one spot atop the box office chart in a coup d’etat by A Working Man. In 66% drop from the previous week Snow White failed to make up another $1 million to keep it on top as the Jason Statham led action film took it with $15.2 million. With the official call being Snow White landing firmly in the bomb zone the film walks away with only a measly $209.9 million globally as of this weekend around $150 million short of its $370 million budget. It should also be noted that Working Man beats Snow White while premiering in far less theaters than the Disney block buster hopeful. A Working Man premiered in 3,262 theaters, hundreds less than Disney’s whopping 4,200 locations.

A Working Man follows the story of a retired military operative working construction who becomes entangled in a web of conspiracies after attempting to rescue the kidnapped daughter of his boss from a human trafficking ring. From director and writer David Ayer and co-writer Sylvester Stallone the film is based on the novel Levon’s Trade by Chuck Dixon. Jason Statham is joined by Jason Flemyng, Merab Ninidze, Maximilian Osinski, Cokey Falkow, Michael Peña and David Harbour.

Coming on the cusp of Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke’s departure A Working Man has been a massive success ahead of the studios plans to pivot to more theatrical projects as the streaming giant plans to carve itself a spot at the table with an appearance from the conglomerate at CinemaCon later this year at Las Vegas.

Amazon’s stake in the Hollywood game comes during a 11% complete box office deficit of profits from this same time last year with some claiming that the strikes and 2020 Pandemic are still affecting ticket sales.

In third was Fathom’s The Chosen: The Last Supper (Part One) netting a holy $11.5 million for the film’s depiction of the Christian story of the night before leading to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The second film based on the last supper to drop in March of this year with The Last Supper having premiered on the 14th from an indie studio. Another film centered on the Christian faith from Angel Studios is hitting theaters on April 11th, King Of Kings is an animated retelling of the life of Jesus and is shaping up to be another well preforming installment for the studio.
