Shudder Acquires Rights To ‘Nightborn’ Starring Rupert Grint

Seidi Haarla and Rupert Grint in Hanna Bergholm's 'Nightborn' (2026)

Shudder, a streaming service that streams horror, thriller, and supernatural films, bought the rights to Hanna Bergholm’s (HatchingNightborn. The movie premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February of this year and stars Rupert Grint (Harry Potter) as Jon and Seidi Haarla (Compartment No.6) as Saga. The plot follows Jon and Saga as a couple who move deep into a Finnish forest to start a family, but Saga believes there is something wrong with her child, while no one believes her. In The Hollywood Reporter article, Grint says,

It really taps into being a parent. The fear of the dangers and the baby getting hurt — something being not quite normal.

Nightborn is Berghom’s sophomore film; for her first was Hatching, a movie that follows the same themes of parenting. However, Berholm has this to say in an interview she did with Cineuropa,

The relationship with one’s parents, especially the mother-daughter relationship, is profound, and so many things stem from it. That’s why I wanted to deal with it in both of my films. In each movie, the mother is quite different, and in Nightborn, I also wanted to show that Saga’s mother is not a typical grandmother.

The movie will have its North American premiere on July 22nd at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival. After that, it will have a streaming debut on July 31st on Shudder.
