The time is coming to rewire those short circuits because Spyglass Media Group has decided to remake the 1986 film Short Circuit. They are adding Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman to the writing team to twist the original, giving it a Latinx spin on the script of the family film.
The original was directed by John Badham (Saturday Night Fever, WarGames) that starred Ally Sheedy (The Breakfast Club), Steve Guttenberg (The Big Green), and Fisher Stevens (Succession). In a comedy based on Number 5, an experimental military robot hit by lightning and given human-like intellect.
Project X Entertainment will be produced by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man), Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak (Ready or Not). Along with Rehab Entertainment’s John W. Hyde, who will return to his original role as executive producer with Terissa Kelton. Production president Peter Oillataguerre and production vice-president Chris Stone will oversee for Spyglass.
Cisneros co-wrote the Eugenio Derbez-directed Instructions Not Included, and Cisneros and Shuman co-wrote the upcoming film Half Brothers for Focus Features. The film stars Luis Gerardo Mendez (Murder Mystery, Charlie’s Angels), Connor Del Rio (Unfriended: Dark Web), and Juan Pablo Espinosa (La Fan).
Spyglass and Project X are now in production to re-launch the Scream franchise, with Radio Silence directing with the original screenplay by Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. The global release from Paramount and Spyglass on January 14, 2022.
