‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ Pushed Back to Winter 2021

The release of Sherlock Holmes 3 will be moved back to December 22, 2021. The delay sets the mystery film back one year from its anticipated December 25, 2020 release. Earlier installments in the franchise, Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), were released within a two-year succession. The threequel will hit theaters 10 years after previous installments and since audiences have seen England’s most iconic detective on the big screen.

Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as the franchise’s title character. The film will also bring back Jude Law’s Watson to reunite with his eccentric partner. While Guy Ritchie directed the franchise’s two previous films, Warner has not yet attached director to the upcoming project. Based on a script by Chris Brancato, Sherlock Holmes 3 looks to be one of Warner Bros.’ most valuable 2021 releases. Both of the franchise’s previous films gained successful box office runs, each surpassing the half a million landmark in their global releases. While Warner has not yet shared the synopsis for Sherlock Holmes 3, many speculate that the script will be based on one of the 13 stories featured in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s acclaimed collection, Sherlock Returns. News of this film was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
