The latest Marvel installment, Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings, has wrapped principle photography. Director Destin Daniel Cretton and Shang-Chi himself, Simu Liu, took to Instagram to share the news just few days ago, after restarting their production in July. This is the first Marvel film to be wrapped post initial lockdown measures.
In the post Cretton writes, “WE. ARE.WRAPPED!” Along with a purely happy photo.
This is Cretton’s first tentpole film. The American director has previously made Just Mercy, the Glass Castle, and Short Term 12, which starred slew of other A-list talents and some Marvel stars. Including Naomi Watts, Woody Harrelson, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael B. Jordan, Brie Larson. Cretton is no stranger to top-notch talent on set.
Simu Liu also posted, making a pretty spot on analogy. Liu wrote, “We made a baby!!! We can’t wait to introduce him to the world in 9 months… 😍😍😍”
The analogy tracks as the conception of Shang-Chi comes at the end of October, which roughly translates to an end of June or an early July due date.
Above all, Marvel’s latest MCU film focuses on an asian superhero. This is not common in American culture and it will be great to see a hero millions can see themselves in. The cast is filled with a plethora of asian actors that have been everywhere from dramatic foreign pieces to American Television series.
In addition to Simu Liu, the film also stars Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, and Tony Chiu-Wai Leung, among others. Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings is slated to release on July 9, 2021.
