The new Terry Gilliam documentary He Dreams of Giants, which highlights the long-troubled production of his 2018 adventure comedy The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, has recently been picked up for UK release by Blue Finch Films. The deal was negotiated by Mike Chapman on behalf of Blue Finch.
“We were huge fans of the documentary upon first seeing it and are thrilled to be working on the release in the UK and Ireland,” Chapman said. “It’s a compelling look at the trials and tribulations of the artistic process, where fact is perhaps wilder than fiction.”
The film is a follow up to 2002’s Lost in La Mancha, which documented Gilliam’s first failed attempt at adapting the classic story of Don Quixote. This means it took Gilliam over 20 years to finally get his version of the story told on the big screen, making it a notorious example of development hell.
Blue Finch Films also acquired the UK rights to Banksy Most Wanted, a documentary that delves into the identity of the infamously mysterious street artist, Banksy. Aurélia Rouvier and Seamus Haley directed the film by combining their journalistic approach and love of art to create “an entertaining art investigation.” The film was selected for the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival.
Both films are looking to be released sometime in 2021.
