Selena Gomez has been moved up to executive producer for the next installment of the Sony Pictures Animation franchise Hotel Transylvania in addition to voicing the female lead Mavis, the daughter of Dracula.
Genndy Tartakovsky created the franchise and served as director for the last three films is stepping down and will not be directing the next installment. He will still be involved with the film but as a screenwriter and executive producer this time around.
It will be co-directed by Jennifer Kluska, who worked as a storyboard artist for the franchise, and Derek Drymon, he spent most of his time working on the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise.
No is no word yet of who is joining the cast from the previous films aside from Selena Gomez and Adam Sandler, who voiced Dracula.
Though considering how successful this franchise is, it is most likely that they will be involved again. The Hotel Transylvania franchise has generated over $1.3 billion worldwide with three films and a spinoff series combined.
This isn’t the first time Gomez has been an executive producer. Her latest work as an executive producer is for The Broken Hearts Gallery, starring Geraldine Viswanathan and Dacre Montgomery. Before The Broken Hearts Gallery, Gomez worked on Netflix hit 13 Reasons Why and a docu-series called Living Undocumented.
Gomez currently stars in the HBO Max original “Selena+Chef,” a quarantine cooking show.
This next installment is still set for an August 2021 release date after being pushed back from Dec. 21, 2021. This is mostly because of the animators working from home, as many others are during these uncertain times.
