Selena Gomez confirmed her starring role in the upcoming Linda Ronstadt biopic in the former’s Instagram story. Gomez teased her role as Ronstadt via a picture of the latter’s 2013 memoir Simple Dreams.
The currently untitled film is in pre-production with producers John Boylan, Ronstadt’s manager, and James Keach, who also oversaw the 2019 documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of Music, overseeing its development. Aside from Gomez, the rest of the cast list has not been announced.
Linda Ronstadt is a former Latin country rock star well-known for her albums Heart Like a Wheel and Simple Dreams in the 1970s. She achieved critical acclaim for her versatility, earning 11 Grammy wins and Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy. Ronstadt retired in 2011 due to her progressive supranuclear palsy, mistaken for Parkinson’s, affecting her singing ability.
Gomez gained recognition earlier this year for her acting talent in Hulu’s original series Only Murders in the Building, from which she won a Golden Globe for her performance as young artist Mabel Mora. With a mixture of her acting and singing talent, the producers undoubtedly felt the Hispanic actress was the perfect match to play Ronstadt and fully showcase the latter’s life and success.
