See the Harrowing First Teaser for ‘Patriot’s Day’

Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg are moving from one real life tragedy (Deepwater Horizon) to another in the first teaser for the Boston Marathon bombing film Patriot’s DayFocusing on the human moments of the disaster and the morning leading up to it, the teaser tells an emotional story still being felt by Boston residents and Americans to this day.

Patriot’s Day will tell the story of the Boston bombing that occurred at the finish line of the city’s famous marathon in 2013. The film will feature the perspective of Boston Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Wahlberg) before, during, and after the terrorist attack that took the lives of three civilians and injured as many as 264 others. The film also features performances from J.K. Simmons, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, Michelle Monaghan, Alex Wolff (My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2), and Melissa Benoist (Whiplash).

Frame-by-frame, the teaser looks very similar to Deepwater Horizon, Berg’s film also starring Wahlberg (now in theaters) that tells the true story of the disastrous 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Like that trailer, Patriot’s Day begins with the family, moves to traditional disaster movie frames, and ends on a strong sense of community and human connection. Hopefully, Berg has been able to separate the individual experiences of both events and create a film unique to the Boston tragedy.

All will be revealed when the film opens nationwide on January 13, 2017. Before that, the film will have a limited release beginning on December 21 of this year. See the teaser below.
