The first international trailer for Dark Places starring Charlize Theron (Monster) has arrived. Adapted from the Gillian Flynn novel – also the author of Gone Girl – by French director Gilles Paquet-Brenner (Pretty Things), the story follows a woman who survived the brutal murder of her family when she was a child. She must re-open old wounds when a secret society obsessed with solving notorious crimes tries to uncover the secrets of that night.
The film has a stellar ensemble cast including Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class), Christina Hendricks (Drive), Corey Stoll (Non-Stop), Drea de Matteo (TV’s The Sopranos) Chloe Grace Moretz (If I Stay), and Tye Sheridan (Mud).
Based on the trailer below, Dark Places will be just as psychologically thrilling as its predecessor Gone Girl, which earned its lead actress Rosamund Pike an Oscar nomination. Whether or not Dark Places’ mystery can measure up to the success of Gone Girl – in terms of (Oscar-nominated) performances and David Fincher’s direction – is still yet to be seen. An American release date has yet to be set by A24, but US audiences can most likely expect to see it sometime after its French release on April 8.
