Damon Wayans Jr. Joins Ensemble Rom-Com ‘How to Be Single’

Damon Wayans Jr. (Let’s Be Cops) has just been cast in the New Line romantic comedy How to Be Single, an ensemble film based on the book by He’s Just Not That Into You author Liz Tuccillo, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film also features Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey), Lily Collins (Stuck in Love), Dan Stevens (TV’s Downton Abbey), Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect), Alison Brie (TV’s Community), and Leslie Mann (This is 40).

The story seems to follow a similar formula as He’s Just Not That Into You wherein several separate storylines focusing on the effects of singlehood – both through the male and female perspective – will interconnect. Blind dating, casual sex, and commitment-phobia will all be topics.

Christian Ditter – Collins’ Love, Rosie director – will helm the film based on the most recent adapted script by New Girl producer Dana Fox (The Wedding Date). Frequent rom-com actress Drew Barrymore (The Wedding Singer) is executive producing. The film is set to begin filming this April and is slated for a-  you guessed it – Valentine’s Day 2016 release.

Wayans is most recently known for his role as Coach on the Zooey Deschanel comedy series New Girl (though it was announced he will soon be exiting the show). His other credits include roles in The Other GuysLet’s Be Cops, and Big Hero 6. In typical Wayans-family fashion, Damon Jr. is gradually establishing himself  as a mainstay on the Hollywood’s comedy scene.
