Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) stars in the teen action comedy Barely Lethal as Megan Walsh, an orphan raised and trained as a special ops agent who covets a normal life. She decides to fake her own death and enrolls in school, but soon realizes that the social world of high school may be more treacherous than espionage. Sophie Turner (HBO’s Game of Thrones), Jessica Alba (Sin City), Jaime King (TV’s Hart of Dixie), Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), and Thomas Mann (Project X) also star.
The film was directed by Kyle Newman – the man behind Fanboys and most recently Taylor Swift’s Style music video – and written by John D’Arco as his first feature screenplay. A24 will be handling distribution and plans to release the film in select theaters and via DirecTV in April.
As Steinfeld’s first comedy preceding May’s Pitch Perfect 2, this will be the first time audiences see the young Oscar-nominated actress test her comedic timing. With big names around her, including fellow up-and-comers Turner (she soon will be appearing in X-Men:Apocalypse) and Mann (he blew audiences away at Sundance with Me and Earl and The Dying Girl), Steinfeld can expect her first stab at comedy to draw substantial interest.
