Secret New ‘Star Trek’ Movie to Release in 2023, J.J. Abrams Will Produce

After a recent rearranging of Paramount’s release schedule, it was revealed that new Star Trek film will be making its way to the big screen in 2023. The film will be produced by J.J. Abrams, and is completely separate from the other Star Trek film being developed by Star Trek: Discovery writer, Kalinda Vazquez.

It’s unclear if this will be set in the same universe as the recent trilogy of films with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto at the helm. Abrams directed and produced the first two films, and Justin Lin directed the most recent of the trilogy, Star Trek: Beyond.

Rumors about quite a few Star Trek projects have floated around for the last few years, mostly about Quentin Tarantino’s standalone Star Trek film which he once said would be like “Pulp Fiction in space.” There were also talks of another film in the franchise coming from Legion creator Noah Hawley.

Although we haven’t seen a feature-length Star Trek film since Beyond, the franchise has stayed in the public eye because of its focus on series like Picard, Discovery, and the animated series, Lower Decks. Fans are expecting to hear more about the upcoming film projects at the Chicago Star Trek convention, which should occur in April 2022.
