If you haven’t heard, American Sniper received glowing reviews at AFI Fest, especially for Bradley Cooper’s (American Hustle) performance as Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. Based off Kyle’s autobiography, and directed by Clint Eastwood (Million Dollar Baby), the story follows a sniper with 160 confirmed kills spanning four tours in Iraq as he struggles with the blurred lines between his military and family life.
Where the first trailer took audiences into the action with Kyle surveying his targets, this second preview provides a wider scope of the film’s story, particularly focusing on his civilian life. We get a short glimpse of Cooper’s performance, as Kyle visibly attempts to reconcile the cruelty of war with the normality of home– scenes which feature Sienna Miller (Alfie) as Kyle’s wife. While ignored by the Golden Globes, American Sniper, and Cooper in particular, still have a chance to nab Oscar nominations. The film will have a limited release starting December 25, with a wide opening on January 16, 2015.
