Sean Gunn recently opened up about his brother, James Gunn, and the controversial firing from Marvel Sutidos in 2018, which led to the transition to DC Studios being a co-leader. In an interview with MovieWeb, Sean was candid about his thoughts about the situation and addressed the challenges and triumphs his brother James faced.
The controversy arose when James Gunn was dismissed from Marvel after old Tweets resurfaced, which sparked a lot of backlash. According to MovieWeb, Sean worked closely with his brother James on the Guardians of the Galaxy films and described the period as deeply challenging but also transformative. “When he was fired, I thought it was a lousy thing to do. I thought it was an overreaction,” MovieWeb also revealed that Sean added that the support James received from fans and industry colleagues during the oreal was heartening.
After he departed from Marvel, James Gunn Warner Bros picked him up to be the center for The Suicide Squad and later got the leadership of DC Studios along with Peter Safran. Sean spoke of pride in his brother’s work with DC while praising the creative freedom Jaems had been afforded and his plans for the DC Universe’s future. He noted, “I think what he’s doing over at DC is exciting. He’s got a great vision for those characters”.
Sean remains hopeful about James and his connection with Marvel despite the shift to DC. Sean emphasized the importance of creative integrity and collaboration by saying, “I think he can continue to work with Marvel someday if that’s what he wants,”
