Scott Derrickson Hints at ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel Progress

The director of Doctor Strange, Scott Derrickson, recently posted to Instagram hinting at the development of Doctor Strange 2. Since fans heard news that there will indeed be sequel to Stephen Strange’s story, people are eager to hear any little details they can.

Screen Rant confirmed that Derrickson published a mysterious post that read, “Not my will, but thine be done…’ See you in September.” This caption accompanied a comic rendering of Doctor Strange. Although this tidbit of information is far from specific, it does lead fans to believe that there will be some major news in September regarding the highly-anticipated sequel.

Prior to the release of Avengers: Infinity War, concrete news on sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange had been non-existent. Any word on a potential sequel, including from star Benedict Cumberbatch, had been elusive. Now it’s apparent that he was being reserved about his future and fate within the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Strange was among the unfortunate half to turn to dust following the snap of Thanos’ fingers. Despite the disastrous ending to Avengers: Infinity War, fans now can rely on factual information that Strange, along with the majority of the other fan favorites within the MCU, will be resurrected in some way come Avengers 4.

While some are predicting that Doctor Strange 2 will release sometime in 2021, the official date is still up in the air. With the current debacle with James Gunn and his directorial status of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 still in a state of flux, the actual release date for the Strange sequel may arrive as early as 2020.
