One of the major May releases affeted by the Covid-19 pandemic is the upcoming animated Scooby-Doo reboot. Initially set to release in May, Scoob! was one of the many films to get its theatrical release date shifted, as Warner Bros put the film on hold. Fortunately, Scoob will be coming out in May after all; the only catch is that it will be getting a digital release instead of a theatrical run.
It seems Warner Bros is doing this in retaliation of Trolls: World Tour doing a full on digital release. Trolls was a massive success and broke a ton of digital release records, so naturally Warner Bros wants in on the market. Given that Scoob! was initially the next major animated family film to come out, it makes perfect sense fto get the exact same treatment in terms of VOD screening in place of theatrical viewing.
While it is a little disappointing that Scooby-Doo’s next big adventure won’t be in theaters, given the circumstances, many are glad that the film will be seeing the light of day at all. Regardless of the viewing experience, it is nice to see a movie actually come out when it was initially set to come out in a time where every single film has been delayed. Being able to see Scoob1 at all during this pandemic will be a treat for families and animation fans everywhere.
Scoob! is set for digital release May 15th 2020
