The long awaited follow-up to The Batman is starting to take shape. A brand new actress has signed on to the project, with Scarlett Johansson boarding the film in what fans presume to be a pivotal role.
The Batman followed Bruce Wayne shortly after becoming Batman, trying to take on the criminals of the treacherous Gotham City. But when The Riddler threatens to unveil a political coverup involving his parents, Bruce has to face the hard truths about his family while holding Gotham City together.
While details on the sequel are few and far between, Johansson’s boarding the project gives fans a taste of what they can come to expect. She’s been cast as Gilda Gold, who first appeared in 1942’s Detective Comics #66, as The InSneider was able to break the news on. She may be most well known to readers as Gilda Dent, the wife of one of Batman’s most iconic rogues, Two-Face.
Although Harvey Dent himself is not confirmed yet, Johansson’s casting as Gilda, along with another role still needing to be filled, are pointing towards him being a critical part. The other character in question is that of uncast Christopher Dent, the father of Harvey Dent.
Screenrant notes that this won’t be the first time that Two-Face appears in a live action Batman film, if he winds up involved in the sequel. Going all the way back to 1989, Harvey Dent was introduced in Tim Burton’s Batman, played by Lando Calrissian himself, Billy Dee Williams. However, come time for Two-Face to be a main villain, Williams was recast, with Tommy Lee Jones taking up the role in Batman Forever. More famously, however, was his depiction in The Dark Knight, with Aaron Eckhart giving a performance that has garnered praise from die-hard fans and critics alike.
