The Santa Barbara International Film Festival has selected recipients for the Virtuoso Award, an accolade the fest annually gives out. They chose eight talents to receive the awards.
The Virtuoso Award is annually given to a select group of actors for a specific performance that they had that year. The first batch of recipients back in 2008 included Casey Affleck, Marion Cotillard, James McAvoy, Elliot Page, and Amy Ryan.
Other past recipients include Andy Serkis in 2012 for his work in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Rooney Mara for her role in Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Mahershala Ali for Moonlight, and Florence Pugh for Midsommar.
This year, the fest’s selected recipients for the Virtuoso Award are Kieran Culkin, Karla Sofía Gascón, Mikey Madison, Harris Dickinson, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Clarence Maclin, and John Magaro.
Culkin was recognized for his role in A Real Pain, in which he stars alongside Jesse Eisenberg. Gascón and Gomez were both selected for their respective roles in Emilia Pérez. Madison was chosen for her leading role in Anora. Dickinson was nominated for Babygirl, the Nicole Kidman-led film that hits theaters in December. Grande’s selection comes thanks to Wicked, which will open in theaters this weekend. Maclin was picked for Sing Sing, and Magaro was selected for September 5.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Dave Karger of TCM, who’s been hosting the event for over a decade, stated that the recipients selected this year are as “impressive as ever.”
He went on to express his excitement to have them all gathered together at the event itself.
