‘S-Town’ Podcast to be Adapted, with Tom McCarthy Directing

Oscar-winning Spotlight director Tom McCarthy is in talks to direct a film based on the podcast S-Town. The adaptation is being developed by Participant Media, and playwright Samuel Hunter is set to write the script.

S-Town, from the creators of Serial and This American Life, follows the investigation of a supposed murder in Woodstock, Alabama. The podcast, aside from investigating the story of the murder, also details the life of John McLemore, the man who originally brought the crime to the attention of This American Life and host S-Town Brian Reed.

Ira Glass’ This American Life will produce the adaptation.

McCarthy’s next project will also be an adaptation of the Stephen Pastis novel, Timmy Failure.
