Ryan Reynolds Searches for Missing Daughter in ‘The Captive’ Trailer

After premiering at the Cannes Film Festival this past spring, and immediately getting picked up by A24 Films, the official trailer for the Atom Egoyan (Devil’s Knot) film has finally been released. The thriller stars Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern) as a father still struggling to solve the mystery of his daughter’s disappearance eight years earlier, after up-to-date photos of her surface on the internet.

Rosario Dawson (Rent) and Scott Speedman (Underworld) also star as the detectives assigned to the case.

Egoyan, who has a proclivity toward story lines revolving around missing children – particularly in his critically acclaimed The Sweet Hereafter and 2013’s Devil’s Knot – seems to take the familiar subject matter to a new level by introducing the role of the internet in a modern investigation. Conversely, the trailer hints at some standard tropes characteristic to thrillers of this nature – i.e. the doting father as a possible suspect, and the concerned detectives inserting themselves into the parent’s lives.

You can see for yourself what Egoyan is able to bring to the genre when the film is released in theaters on December 12, or you can watch it at home now through DirecTV.
