At Marvel Studios’ recent San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) panel, Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance as Deadpool. Decked in a gray variant of the character’s costume, the actor crashed the panel’s Q&A section, lobbying for a spot in Avengers: Doomsday.

In the Q&A section, Reynolds first appeared disguised as a fan, calling himself “Ricky” and stating that he was “cosplaying hard.” Reynolds then went on to banter with Paul Rudd, asking Rudd, “Where is Thor, and why was he crying?” This question was in reference to a bit in Deadpool & Wolverine, in which Deadpool sees Chris Hemsworth’s Thor holding him in a moment said to be from the future.

Reynolds, as Deadpool, then went on to say, “This seems like an awfully expensive way to announce a film. When do you start filming?”, causing Robert Downey Jr to respond, “It’s in the can, bro. Look around you. Did you bump your head?” Reynolds, then, in turn, responded by asking, “I see. So there’s no additional photography, no overages, hot costs — maybe last-minute additions, ” and then abruptly leaving by saying, “No further questions. Happy Hogan, fetch the Audi. We’re leaving.”

Despite appearing during a panel explicitly meant to build hype for Avengers: Doomsday, Reynolds’s appearance was not an official confirmation that Deadpool had an official role in Avengers: Doomsday. However, Reynolds recently said at an appearance at Fantastic Fest that he thinks another standalone Deadpool will be made at some point in the future.

For now, all fans can do is use this stunt appearance as fuel for their speculation on Deadpool’s appearance in Avengers: Doomsday before its release in theaters on December 19th.
