After Deadpool’s mainstream success with critics and the box office, going on to become the highest R-rated films of all time, fans have been eagerly awaiting sequel. We’ve already seen a number of photos taken by Josh Brolin, who’s set to play the role of Cable, and now fans are getting a glimpse of a familiar X-Men set piece. Confirming a report by Comic Book Resources (CBR) that 20th Century Fox is filming scenes at Hatley Castle in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, Ryan Reynolds took to social media to poke fun at his film in classic Deadpool fashion.
“Dropped by X-Mansion. Looked closely for Beast’s lawn bombs before taking well deserved nap,” Reynolds wrote on Instagram while posing in front of the castle. The same photo was reposted on Facebook, albeit with a slightly more erotic tagline, “Now filming Deadpool 2: Xavier’s Lust.” Finally, Reynolds tweeted his photo on Twitter while throwing a bit of shade at the lack of company: “Big f—ing surprise. No one’s home.”
Since the first X-Men film, Hatley Castle has been used multiple times as a live-action depiction of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, which teaches young Mutants how to properly control their abilities. The castle was featured briefly during Deadpool to show how the Merc with a Mouth is canon within the X-Men film universe. Most notably was Reynolds’s rather hilarious joke about the lack of heroes present during the film: “It’s a big house. It’s funny that I only ever see two of you. It’s almost like the studio couldn’t afford another X-Man.” Presumably the sequel will feature more time inside the Xavier Mansion, which will undoubtedly result in more meta-jokes about the X-Men franchise.
Deadpool 2 will be released in theaters on June 1, 2018 and is directed by David Leitch (John Wick). Alongside Ryan Reynolds will be returning stars T.J. Miller, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand and Karan Soni, as well as Brolin and Zazie Beetz as Domino.
