Ryan Reynolds has finally revealed the future of Deadpool in the MCU and whether Deadpool 4 is in the works. During this week’s Sunday Sitdown Live, Reynolds was asked if there were any chance fans would see another Deadpool feature in the coming years, to which the Free Guy actor responded,
I have some stuff kind of written. But I don’t think I am ever going to center him again. I think he’s a supporting character. He’s a guy that is great in a group.
Before this, the last news officially confirmed about the status of Deadpool happened in May 2025. The The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Reynolds “is exploring ideas for Deadpool movie that would feature X-Men characters,” and will be “keeping his f-bomb-wielding anti-hero more on the sidelines which could allow for the X-Men characters to be used in unexpected ways.” This information has led to a popular theory that Reynolds’ mystery project will be X-Force, a feature he was working on when Deadpool and the X-Men were under 20th Century Fox. It was set to be helmed by Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow, who wanted Reynold’s Deadpool to be the main antagonistic character in the film, explaining,
I wanted this antagonist chasing [X-Force] the whole time. Deadpool was introduced as a villain in the original X-Force run, so I had our main villain hire a mercenary to [hunt] this group of ragtag villains down and the mercenary hired was Deadpool.
While this concept can certainly get fans stoked, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm exactly what Reynolds’ mystery film will be, as it seems he is still in the writing stages with no release date set or director chosen. It could be a while until fans even see the slightest detail of what the next installment in the Deadpool universe could be.
