Netflix has secured the rights to Jaume Collet-Serra’s (Carry-On) latest film, Play Dead. The film is a thriller set during WWII, in which a shell-shocked soldier must play dead for an entire night to avoid being spotted by Nazi soldiers. It has been billed as a mashup of Don’t Breathe and 1917. The film stars Noah Jupe (Hamnet, A Quiet Place) and Matthias Schweighöfer (Oppenheimer, Army of the Dead).
Director Jaume Collet-Serra is in a multi-year creative partnership with Netflix, a deal which was made after the smashing success of Carry-On in 2024, a film which is Netflix’s third most popular film of all time. Producing Play Dead are Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert from Ghost House Pictures. Along with them are J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules from BoulderLight and Dane Eckerle from Bad Grey.
As of now, there is no release date for this film, but it will likely make its exclusive debut on Netflix.
