With Avengers: Doomsday rapidly approaching, directors Joe and Anthony Russo made their case to help get audiences back into theaters for the upcoming Avengers: Endgame Encore. With Avengers: Endgame being the duo’s last outing in the MCU, Joe Russo made his case for the importance of a rewatch, “It’s going to connect the story of the two movies.”
Not only does the pair feel it is essential that fans witness the epic conclusion to the Infinity Saga continuity wise, but they promise that audiences will have a great time at the multiplex. With the re-release set for September 25, audiences will have the opportunity to see four minutes of extra footage, along with a sneak peek at Doomsday. Avengers: Endgame Encore officially clocks in at 185 minutes.
This is a significant moment not just for the MCU, but box office history. Currently sitting at $2.79 billion at the worldwide box office, Avengers: Endgame is second all time behind Avatar, which sits at $2.9 billion all time. A significant box office number can re-position Avengers: Endgame as the number 1 film all time at the worldwide box office. Doomsday is set to release on December 18, already generating millions in ticket sales. Marvel is sure to be hoping the film can be the second MCU entry to join the $2 billion club in 2026, joining Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The major selling point for the film was announced just over 2 years ago at San Diego Comic-Con. With Marvel pivoting to Doomsday and away from Avengers: Kang Dynasty, the major announcement was Dr. Doom coming on stage and taking off his mask, revealing a returning Robert Downey Jr. The cast will also see Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers, along with many classic X-Men from the Fox films, including Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and James Marsden. Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Simu Liu, Letitia Wright, Anthony Mackie, Vanessa Kirby, and many more are also a part of the ensemble.
