Russell Crowe has reveled his character in Thor: Love And Thunder, and while his character was initially thought to be a short cameo, it seems like he has quite a larger role that has implications for the future of this God-focused franchise.
To avoid spoilers, I would recommend not clicking through this article, but also film and stories in general are more about the journey than the actual destination, either way, viewer beware.
Russell Crowe was on JOY Breakfast with The Murphys, an Australian comedy radio show, when he said “I’m going to get on my bicycle. I’m going to ride up to Disney Fox Studios and around about 9:15, I shall be Zeus! It’s for Thor. It’s my last day of Zeus-ing about, and I’m going to enjoy it.”
This is huge news and has implications for the future of the Norse God. Zeus is basically the Greek version of Odin, who was portrayed by Sir Anthony Hopkins for the first three Thor films. This opens the door to more Greek Gods, and perhaps other types of Gods in the future of the Thor movies.
It is also fun to note that Taika Waititi is a huge fan of mythology, one can clearly tell by his film turned TV show mythos in What We Do in the Shadows.
Disney has had a rough week with veteran actors in their next stage of movies. Before Crowe spilled his character, Alfred Molina gave extensive details on his return as Doc Ock. Either way both of their careers will be completely fine, and they come from a time where the internet did not exist to this extent and movie trailers used to give away the entire plot.
This casting has huge implications for the future of the MCU, and while Endgame did feel like the end of an era, Marvel and Disney are not slowing down. This week on the TV side Olivia Coleman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Emilia Clarke have all joined the Disney+ Series Secret Invasion.
Thor: Love And Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, and the entire cast of Guardians of the Galaxy. The film is due out on February 11, 2022, and is wrapping in Australia in the next few months.
