Rumored Film ‘Bones and All’ Marks a ‘Call Me By Your Name’ Reunion for Luca Guadagnino and Timothée Chalamet

Italian director Luca Guadagnino and actor Timothée Chalamet, both of Call Me By Your Name (2017) fame, are said to be rejoining forces for new project entitled Bones and All. Deadline broke with the exclusive early Thursday, January 28th about the upcoming film. Deadline describes the project as a “horror love story” between Chalamet’s character and his love interest, set to be played by rising star Taylor Russell. The project also reunites Guadagnino and screenwriter David Kajganich with whom he worked on the 2018 remake Suspiria  and A Bigger Splash (2015). Little else is known about Bones and All besides Deadline’s claim that it has quite the selection of studios ready to buy it up. There is no set release date or production schedule at this time.

Bones and All is to sit at the very top of the projects-pile Guadagnino has in the works including a modernized take on Scarface at Universal, gay hustler film with Seth Rogen, and an adaptation of Lord of the Flies. On top of that, there has been a longstanding possibility of a Call Me By Your Name sequel based on André Aciman’s novel Find Me.

Guadagnino’s triumph of CMBYN earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Picture in 2018, subsequently rendering him a well-sought-after filmmaker in Hollywood. His artistic and intimate take on coming-of-age tales has also made a graceful and well-received transition to the small screen in the HBO series We Are Who We Are. The series premiered fall of 2020 and starred Jack Dylan Grazer, Jordan Kristine Seamón and Chloë Sevigny.

The acclaimed actors set to join Bones and All, Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell, have built themselves quite impressive rosters of past and future projects, respectively. Chalamet, whom Guadagnino has often calls one of his muses (Tilda Swinton being another), joins Bones and All with two highly anticipated flicks still in production. He stars in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, a SCI-FI remake of David Lynch’s 1984 version (both of which are based on the Frank Herbert novel). Chalamet is also anticipated to star in Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, which, along with Dune, will be released late this year.

The other half of the love story that Bones and All will tell is Taylor Russell, of A24’s Waves (2019) critical acclaim. Russell received her breakout role in Netflix’s Lost in Space series (2018- ), which she followed with string of successful films including Escape Room and Words on Bathroom Walls. She has since been awarded the Film Independent Spirit and Gotham Independent award for Breakthrough Actor (Timothée Chalamet being a past winner, himself). Despite the dark material expected for a “horror love story,” the future looks bright for a successful collaboration amongst some of Hollywood’s most promising talents.
