Ruby Rose Tapped for Sci-Fi Sea Adventure ‘Meg’ Opposite Jason Statham

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black) is in talks to join the cast of Meg, a new sci-fi sea adventure coming from Warner Bros and Gravity Pictures.

Jason Statham (Furious 7) is already set to star. Also in the cast are Bingbing Fan (I Am Not Madame Bovary) and Jessica McNamee (Last Days of Summer). Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure) will helm. Based on the 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten, James Vanderbilt is doing a rewrite of a draft by Dean Georgaris. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Belle Avery and Colin Wilson are among the producers.

The story follows a former Naval captain and expert deep sea diver (Statham) who is sent on a rescue mission when a group of Chinese scientists in a disabled submersible come under attack. Threatening the crew is the Carcharodon Megalodon, a 70-foot, 40-ton prehistoric kin of the great white shark – the largest marine creature and predator that ever lived. Rose will play Jaxx, described an engineering genius and member of the marine research team.

Rose is known as one of the stars of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black. She has three upcoming feature films: xXx: The Return of Xander Cage with Vin Diesel, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter with Milla Jovovich, and John Wick 2 with Keanu Reeves.

Meg is set to bow on March 2nd, 2018.
