Ruby Modine returns for ‘Happy Death Day 2’

Variety is reporting that Ruby Modine has agreed to reprise her villainous character Lori Spengler in Happy Death Day 2. By signing onto the thriller sequel, Modine will continue to build her impressive resume as of late with her breakout performance in Showtime’s Shameless as Sierra and her role as Lori Spengler in the original Happy Death Day. Modine returns to the sequel along with Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard.

The Blumhouse Studios thriller sequel will start shooting in New Orleans this week. Director Christopher Landon will continue his role and will also be writing the script, while Jason Blum and Ryan Turek will co-produce the film.

What is interesting about the recast of Modine in the sequel is that (Spoilers Ahead!) her character was killed off at the end of the original film. What does the sequel do to explain her return to the film? Will she only be seen in flashbacks or will the film try to explain that she did not actually die at the end? That remains to be seen.
