Rosamund Pike to Co-Star With Christian Bale in ‘Hostiles’

Academy Award-nominated actress Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) is set to co-star with Academy Award-winning actor Christian Bale (nominated for supporting actor this year for The Big Short) in Hostiles. The news was first reported by Deadline.

Scott Cooper (Black Mass) will write and direct. The story, based on a Donald Stewart (Missing) screenplay, is set in 1892 and centers on the journey of an Army captain as he escorts a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to tribal lands. Pike will play a widow whose family was murdered; she joins the perilous journey. Cooper said, “It’s a journey of acceptance through the heart of darkness.” Cooper will produce along with John Lesher and Ken Kao, who will be financing through his Waypoint Entertainment.

Pike became known to international audiences as the hot new Bond girl opposite Pierce Brosnan in 2002’s Die Another Day in her first major feature film role. In 2005, she played Jane Bennett in Joe Wright’s Pride and Prejudice, receiving a nomination from the London Film Critics’ Circle Award for British Supporting Actress. She was nominated again by the LFCC for her performance in 2009’s An Education. Her performance as Amy Elliott-Dunne in 2014’s Gone Girl was widely praised; her work on the film earned her Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, and SAG nominations. Upcoming, Pike has starring roles in A United Kingdom about an interracial couple in the 1940’s, and World War II war thriller HHhH. Both are currently in post-production. Her next projects include action thriller High Wire Act opposite Jon Hamm (TV’s Mad Men), and Jean Luc Herbulot’s The Bends, another action thriller.

Production on Hostiles will begin in July.
