Billy on the Street, Billy Eichner will have his romantic comedy Bros debut in theaters on Aug 12, 2022. The screenplay is written by Eichner, and it focuses on two gay men with commitment problems who are trying their hands at a relationship.
The film’s director Nicholas Stoller also helped to write the screenplay. Stoller directed hit movies like Neighbors starring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, Forgetting Sarah Marshall starring Kristen Bell and Jason Segel, and Get Him To The Greek starring Jonah Hill and Russell Brand.
There has not been an announcement yet on who will play Eichner’s love interest in the comedy.
For Universal, Bros will be the first romantic comedy about two gay men saying, “the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably stumbling towards love. Maybe. They’re both very busy.”
Eichner told Variety in an interview back in 2019 the importance of being the first openly gay man to star in and write a romantic comedy. “I’m honored that it’s me, but it should have been someone else 30 or 40 years ago,” he said. “I hear people talking about diversity and inclusion, but I often see gay people left out of those conversations. The comedy community, which has always been such a straight man’s game, has not been kind to openly gay men.”
