Rod Serling, Creator of “Twilight Zone,” is Getting a Biopic

You’re traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination. Next stop, the Twilight Zone!

Richard Kelly, the director of Donnie Darko, Southland Tales, and The Box, has just announced that he is planning on directing a biopic about the late great Rod Serling. Kelly has not directed a feature film in 10 years so it will be interesting to see how he handles the life story of such an important and interesting creator like Serling.

Rod Serling was one of the writers behind the original Planet of the Apes movie and other classic movies, but he remains best known as the creator and narrator of the original Twilight Zone. The impact that Twilight Zone has had on American popular culture is so astronomical that even people who have never seen single episode know what the show was about, or at the very least recognize its iconic theme music. The show has been parodied in countless  shows and movies and remains a major source of influence for several modern creators, including Richard Kelly himself and Jordan Peele, who is currently a developer and narrator of the current Twilight Zone reboot series.

Twilight Zone would not have become the cultural icon that it is today if it had not been for Rod Serling’s desire to push the boundaries of story telling. As of right now it is unknown who will be playing Serling or what period of Serling’s life the biopic will focus on. Perhaps all of these answers and more will be revealed once we enter… the Twilight Zone!
