For the first time in her 30+ year career, Robin Wright is stepping behind the lens for feature-length film. Her directorial debut, Land, just released its first trailer, which features Wright as a desperate woman pursuing a life off the grid after an unfathomable event.
The Focus Features film also stars Academy Award nominee Demián Bichir and Gone Girl star Kim Dickens. It’s written by newcomer Jesse Chatham alongside Golden Globe nominee Liz Hannah and frequent Wright collaborator Erin Dignam, who directed her in the films Denial and Loved. Wright will executive produce. Additional producers include Allyn Stewart, Lora Kennedy, Leah Holzer, and Oscar nominee Peter Saraf.
Wright has actually directed before, just not for a feature-length film. She directed several episodes of the hit Netflix series House of Cards, which she also starred in for all 6 seasons of the award-winning series. Variety also named her as one of the 10 directors to watch in 2020.
Wright is known mostly for her roles in some of cinemas most iconic stories. She starred as Jenny in Forrest Gump alongside Tom Hanks. She also starred as the titular princess in Rob Reiner’s 1987 adventure classic, The Princess Bride.
Land will premiere at the upcoming Sundance film festival and is set to release February 12, 2021.
