According to the Hollywood Reporter, final negotiations and talks suggest that Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis will be directing the upcoming sci-fi thriller Ares for Warner Bros. Zemeckis’ previous projects include the sci-fi classic Back to the Future, the Oscar award-winning Forrest Gump, and the must-watch holiday-themed animated film Polar Express. In all likelihood, Zemeckis may be returning to the sci-fi genre with the new project underway. Known for his stunning special effects and zany storytelling, the audience can positively anticipate the final confirmation of his direction for Ares soon.
The plot of Ares centers around an astronaut who survives his space capsule crash. He ends up in an African desert and tries to reunite with his family. However, the astronaut suspects that this mission was part of a larger conspiracy and that he may be playing a key role in carrying out the conspiracy that may forever change humanity.
Zemeckis would be working with the original script of Ares, written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, co-writer of Captain Marvel. Before the unexpected change to Warner Bros, the project was originally set up with MGM. Additionally, Zemeckis would produce the film alongside partners Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey at his independent film production company ImageMovers.
