Over a year after the release of Dune: Part Two, the next installment of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi trilogy, Dune: Messiah, has been cropping up in several headlines, many of which include new and returning talents for the film. One of which is the potential that Robert Pattinson could join the cast of Messiah.
While the potential for Pattinson to appear in Messiah is exciting, there is no confirmation that he will be appearing. Early reports, however, state that if Pattinson were to be cast, he’d be playing a character by the name of Scytale.
Scytale, introduced in the Dune: Messiah novel, serves as an antagonist within the story. Like the main antagonist of the first book, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Scytale is a character who uses his wits to gain what he wants. Rather than force, he carefully lays down certain schemes for the characters to fall into.
If Pattinson gets casted as Scytale, then he’ll join the ranks of other talents to have played villains within the Dune series. The first and second films saw Stellan Skarsgård playing Baron Harkonnen, while Dave Bautista played Beast Rabban Harkonnen. The second film specifically saw Austin Butler play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, as well.
As Hollywood Reporter notes, Robert Pattinson already boasts an impressive career with past performances, as well as upcoming roles. Pattinson has roles under his belt like The Lighthouse and Tenet, but will also headline the sequel to The Batman, returning as the caped crusader himself.
