In recent interview with MTV U.K., Robert Pattinson compares his character, Antinous, in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, to Jacob from Twilight. He was asked in the interview what it was like to be playing a character no one was rooting for, to which he replied, “I think they will be rooting for him…I keep comparing… it’s kinda like Jacob in Twilight.” The character Jacob, played by Taylor Lautner in the film adaption of Twilight, was a love interest of the protagonist Bella, played by Kristen Stewart. However, Robert Pattinson also played Edward in the series, and served as her other love interest. The love triangle of Edward, Jacob and Bella created the trend among fans of the series whether they were “Team Jacob or Team Edward.”
Pattinson’s character Antinous serves as a love interest to Penelope, who is played by Anne Hathaway, in Nolan’s Odyssey. Antinous wants to claim Penelope’s hand in marriage, since her husband Odysseus hasn’t returned from war. Penelope, however, is faithful to Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, and waits 20 years for his return. During these 20 years, she finds ways to keep suitors away before she eventually has to find someone to become king.
