The Into the Woods director Rob Marshall is being considered as top pic for the latest live-action adaptation of the Disney classic, The Little Mermaid, though nothing is confirmed. He has the script to read and says he will make his decision after the holidays, according to Deadline.
Following the other live action adaptations including Beauty and the Beast, this version of The Little Mermaid is reported to follow the same musicality as its animated predecessor under the production of Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken with new original songs in addition to some of the classics. Miranda and Marc Platt are producing the film.
The film is scheduled to be completed and release Christmas day next year. Following the releases of both live-action films Aladdin, which stars Will Smith as the incomparable Genie, and The Lion King, featuring the musical voice talents of Beyonce and Donald Glover.
