While Star Wars fans have been very divided over the last few years thanks to the new trilogy, there are certainly plenty of fans still looking forward to the film’s upcoming home media release. On StarWars.com, the announcement of the film’s digital and blu-ray release surfaced as the film is set to hit digital platforms on March 17th and Blu-ray/4K/DVD on March 31st. The announcement was even provided with a short little trailer to celebrate the film’s home media release.
As expected, this DVD release will provide plenty of bonus features about the making of the film including some behind the scenes footage of certain moments like the Pasaana chase sequence as well as an exclusive look with John Williams and his history of composing the films over the years. The most notable addition to the home media release is a feature length documentary on the making of the film, much similar to the documentary that appeared on the home media release for The Last Jedi and Revenge of the Sith.
The downside is that this new release of the film will not include certain bonus features such as deleted scenes or a commentary track. This could easily be seen as a disappointment for fans who wanted to see certain moments that were cut out such as some of Rose Tico’s cut scenes. However, considering that The Force Awakens got a second blu-ray release later that included some of the features absent from the original blu-ray such as a director’s commentary, it’s possible the same treatment could be given to Rise of Skywalker. Regardless, fans can look forward to the new making-of featurette for Rise of Skywalker, which will give much insight into the film’s production process.
Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker is set for Digital Release on March 17th 2020 and Blu-ray/4K/DVD on March 31st 2020.
