On August 5th, Anne Heche, who officers believe to have been under the influence, ran her blue Mini Cooper into a suburban LA home which started a fire that led to her receiving serious burns.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ she had cocaine in her system that might have contained fentanyl, before the crash.
After pulling Heche from the wreck, the Los Angeles Police Department got a warrant to test for blood alcohol levels, but the results are yet to be released.
Heche was pronounced “brain dead” on Friday after being in a fiery car crash that put her in a coma for a week in Los Angeles. California law states if someone is brain dead, they are legally dead. Heche was 53.
“We have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend,” the statement said. “Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy. Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact.”
Heche’s heart is still beating as she remains on life support so her organs can be donated according to her rep. “It has long been her choice to donate her organs,” her spokesperson told Page Six this week.
Ex-girlfriend Ellen Degeneres tweeted “this is a sad day. I’m sending Anne’s children, family and friends all my love.”
Heche was best known for her role in NBC’s The Brave as Patricia Campbell.
The actress also appeared in big projects such as Wag the Dog, Donnie Brasco and Six Days Seven Nights.
She leaves behind her sons Homer Laffoon, who she had with cameraman Coleman Laffoon, and Atlas Heche Tupper, who she had with Men in Trees co-star James Tupper.
