Remake Of Japanese Horror Film, ‘Pulse’, To Be Directed By Dave Boyle

Sony’s Screen Gems has announced that a remake of Japanese horror film , Pulse, is the works with writer Dave Boyle directing the project. The news comes before the theatrical premiere of his Overlook Film Festival submission, Never After Dark. The project is to be produce by Parker Finn’s (Smile) production company Bad feeling, with Jonathan Fass (Smile 2) and SpyGlass. The original was directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure) and premiered at Cannes in 2001. The movie follows a group of young people as they believe that spirits are trying to enter the world through technology. According to Deadline, the location of the movie as well as plot is being kept secret but the movie set to be a modern telling of the original.

Boyle’s movie, Never After Dark, is getting a theatrical release September 25th and has been praised by Stephen King “amazing and haunting.” In an interview with CBR, Boyle states, “I love J-horror, the kind of J-horror boom started right as I was graduating from high school. So those movies really made a huge impression on me. I think what we wanted to do with is just kind of take a lot of the influences from J-horror as well as just kind of gothic western horror as well and try to come up with something new and fun and unique…”
