20th Century Fox has announced changes in the planned release dates for two films. Alita: Battle Angel, originally scheduled to bow on July 20, has been delayed to December 21. The Predator is being pushed back from August 3 to September 14.
Robert Rodriguez (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) directs Alita: Battle Angel, which is set in the post-apocalyptic future and centers around a cyborg named Alita, abandoned in a scrapyard and found by a doctor who rebuilds her. She has no memory of her past but nevertheless remembers her skills as a deadly fighter using the cyborg martial art Panzer Kunst. To save those she wants to protect, it is imperative that she unlock the memories of her own past. The film is a live-action film adaptation of the 1990s popular action manga series created by Yukito Kishiro, with a screenplay by James Camerson, Rodriguez, and Laeta Kalogridis. The film is produced by Cameron and Jon Landau and stars Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner: The Death Cure) stars as Alita. Academy Award winners Jennifer Connelly (Noah) and Christoph Waltz (Big Eyes) are also in the cast.
Shane Black (The Nice Guys) directs The Predator, starring Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu), Sterling K. Brown (Black Panther), Jacob Tremblay (Wonder), and Yvonne Strahovski (All I See is You). The film is a sequel to 1990’s Predator 2 and prequel to 2010’s Predators. The story centers on Predators invading a suburban city and being fought off by a group of PTSD-afflicted war veterans.
The Predator’s competition at the box office will include Alpha, The Darkest Minds, and Fighting With My Family. Alita: Battle Angel will battle Aquaman, Bumblee, and Holmes and Watson on its new opening day.
