According to Variety, Bleecker Street in partnership with Fingerprint Releasing has set a release date of August 18 for Steven Soderbergh’s heist comedy Lucky Logan, his first film following a 4-year hiatus. Soderbergh created Fingerprint Releasing which is piloted by Dan Fellman. Soderbergh said, “This is the result of sixteen years of conversations I’ve had with Dan about creating a new distribution paradigm for star-driven, wide release projects. With ‘Logan Lucky’ I have the right movie, the right team, and the right partner in Bleecker Street to test some personal theories I’ve accumulated. It’s put-up-or-shut-up time.”
Rebecca Blunt makes her feature film screenwriting debut. Channing Tatum (Hail, Caesar!) and Adam Driver (Paterson) star as two brothers planning a high-stakes robbery during a car race. The large cast also includes Riley Keough (American Honey), two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank (You’re Not You), Seth MacFarlane (Ted 2), Katie Holmes (All We Had), Daniel Craig (Spectre), Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Dwight Yoakam (Boomtown), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: Civil War), David Denman (The Gift), Macon Blair (Gold), Jack Quaid (Vineland), and Brian Gleeson (Assassin’s Creed).
Gregory Jacobs, Mark Johnson, Reid Carolin, and Tatum produced. Executive producers are Fellman, Michale Polaire, and Zane Stoddard of Nascar.
Andrew Karpen, CEO of Bleecker Street, said, “We’re thrilled to be working with Steven and the team at Fingerprint to break new ground and bring such an exciting film to audiences this summer.”
At its rollout, Logan Lucky will compete with The Hitman’s Bodyguard and The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature.
