Lionsgate has acquired the distribution rights to Cold, a movie Reese Witherspoon (Wild) and Bruna Papandrea have shopped around through their company, Pacific Standard Films, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Witherspoon has also been attached to star in the movie.
While the plot is unknown at this time, the movie has been described as a dark, supernatural thriller. No directors or other actors have been announced either. The script was written by Bill Marsilii (Deja Vu). Marsilii also wrote the script for the latest adaptation of the fantasy novel The Wind in the Willows.
Most notably, Witherspoon and her company produced the critically and financially successful adaptation of Gone Girl. In fact, Witherspoon was originally set to star in the film as the female lead, Amy Dunne, whom was eventually played by Rosamund Pike. Pacific Standard Films also produced Wild and Hot Pursuit, both of which starred Witherspoon.
Given the lack of information released on Cold, nothing has been announced in terms of a release date. We’ll have more on the film as it’s announced.
