Rebel Wilson Cast in First Non-Comedy Film, A UK Drama ‘The Almond And The Seahorse’

Rebel Wilson is trying something new, something outside her usual comedy films, and has joined Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Janet McTeer (Ozark, Albert Nobbs) in a UK drama The Almond And The Seahorse, a feature adaptation of Kaite O’Reilly’s stageplay.

The film is a touching story about two couples where one has survived a traumatic brain injury, and the couple explores how it will impact their lives together. The movie will be directed by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Tom Stern who will be making his directorial debut with this film and will co-direct it with Celyn Jones, who also happens to be making his feature debut directing. He wrote screenplays for The Vanishing and Six Minutes To Midnight. Jones will star in the movie with Wilson and McTeer, reprising his original stage production role.

“The Almond And The Seahorse will be a journey into the lives of two couples whose lives become irreversibly altered through simple twists of fate,” said director Stern. “We will join them in their search for new relevance in this new reality, a search that is both tragic and comedic as their worlds turn upside down. The film will be directed jointly: bridging image, drama, and performance into a poignant tale of humans striving for meaning and love.”

The Australian native became one of the most recognized comedic actors in the film industry for her roles in moves like the Pitch Perfect franchise, Bridesmaids, Isn’t It Romantic, and The Hustle with Anne Hathaway.
