Director Denis Villeneuve’s remake of the classic science fiction film Dune, deemed the “Star Wars for adults,” is set to debut in late 2019 starring Academy Award nominee Timothée Chalamet and recently announced costar Rebecca Ferguson.
Dune follows the story of Paul Atreides (Chalamet), whose family reigns over the planet of Arrakis in the distant future. After a betrayal amongst competing noble families, the story explains the corruption of politics, religion, and nature with Paul leading his family in a rebellion against the state of the world.
Chalamet is currently promoting his new movie Beautiful Boy and also starred in The King, which is in its post-production stage, and A Rainy Day In New York, which has been shelved by Amazon Studios. He is also rumored to be in Greta Gerwig’s next film, Little Women, alongside Lady Bird costar Saoirse Ronan.
Ferguson also has a tightly packed schedule. She recently hit theatres as Ilsa Faust in the new installment of the Mission Impossible franchise and will star in Joe Cornish’s new film The Kid Who Would Be King. She also landed roles in the sequel to The Shining and the new Men In Black film.
Villeneuve has directed similar science fiction movies like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. In 2017, Legendary Pictures announced its partnership with Villeneuve as director and Forrest Gump’s Eric Roth as screenwriter. The film is a remake of the 1984 film Dune and is based on the 1965 science fiction novel of the same title.
