A new documentary covering the tragedies of the Boeing 737 MAX air disasters in 2018 and 2019 is currently in production. The film will reunite the duo of Emmy Award-winner Rachel Dretzin and Oscar nominee/Emmy-winner Barak Goodman, both of whom are set to direct. Additionally, Don Edkins, whose son was unfortunately killed in the 2019 tragedy, will produce the film, with Diane Weyermann and Jeff Skoll serving as executive producers.
“We are thrilled to be partnering again with Participant, along with producer Don Edkins, in telling the story of the downfall of one of America’s greatest manufacturing companies,” said Dretzin and Goodman in a statement, “It’s a story filled with remarkable characters; corporate greed; brave whistle blowers; and, of course, terrible human tragedy in the form of more than 340 passengers who lost their lives, and their loved ones who are seeking answers.”
The documentary focuses on both 2018 and 2019 Boeing tragedies involving the 737 MAX airplane, which caused the deaths of 346 passengers. Itwill not only chronicle the events of the disasters, but also go into detail about the aftermath of the tragedies, including the private and public scrutiny, which highlighted an appalling lack of oversight and quality controls by Boeing.
This project, which has yet to be titled, will examine how the tragedies affected the families of those passengers lost and how they are fighting for justice. Participant’s previous work with the directors includes Dretzin’s 2018 disability documentary Far From The Tree and Goodman’s gerrymandering documentary Slay the Dragon, which the latter co-directed.
