FilmLA has announced their findings for the third quarter of 2024. According to their data, quarter three saw a drop in overall production rates.
Paul Audley, the president of FilmLA, spoke about the decrease in statistics when looking at this quarter. He spoke to the fact that the decrease being witnessed was not the expected outcome, with what was anticipated looking much stronger. The higher estimation comes, in part, thanks to the fact that the industry is still seeing some rebound from the dual SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike, that still continues its ripple effect after being concluded for roughly a year.
FilmLA itself looks at multiple facets of filming that are done within LA, not limiting itself to just movie productions. Even across the vast board of productions that can entail, most of them saw a drop in the third quarter, specifically in shoot days.
Variety points out that reality television shows took a hit to their numbers, dropping by almost 57% in the quarter. On top of that, other smaller projects, such as documentaries and industrial works, dropped by .6%.
Despite the decrease in other types of productions, film itself saw an increase of close to 27%.
Variety also noted that Audley spoke out about his support for the Film & Television Tax Credit Program of California, but also stated that California itself needs to help with the change, even as FilmLA’s competition continues to change.
